Der Kreis – Kassel e.V. was founded in September 2024 in Kassel. It was created by Ukrainian volunteers brought together by shared experience, a strong sense of responsibility, and a genuine desire to help where support is truly needed.

In January 2025, the organization was officially recognized as a non-profit and began its formal work in Germany. This was an important milestone: what started as a grassroots initiative became a structured organization capable of working systematically and on a larger scale.

At the heart of Der Kreis – Kassel e.V. are people with real hands-on experience in humanitarian work, including in frontline areas. Some members of our team have been volunteering since 2014, from the very beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Even before the organization was formally established, a strong community had already formed in Kassel around shared goals and practical action. Together, we took part in humanitarian, social, and cultural initiatives, supported people in difficult circumstances, and gradually brought more and more committed individuals into our circle. Over time, it became clear that to grow and make a lasting impact, we needed a clear and reliable structure. That is how Der Kreis – Kassel e.V. was born.

What We Achieved in 2025. In our very first year, together with our partners, we delivered humanitarian aid to Ukraine worth approximately €650,000.

More than 25 officially registered volunteers worked alongside us—not only in Kassel, but also in neighboring cities.

Throughout 2025, we organized around 40 events, ranging from humanitarian and social initiatives to cultural gatherings and community-building activities.

A major milestone came in March 2026 during the municipal elections in Kassel. Our organization’s candidate list achieved second place in the election to the Foreigners’ Advisory Council. Eight of our representatives were elected to the council—an outstanding result that was widely seen as a remarkable success in Kassel.
